About the Democracy Project

An initiative of Freedom House, the George W. Bush Institute, and the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, the Democracy Project is aimed at rebuilding strong bipartisan support in defense of democracy at home and abroad.

We are grateful to the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for its generous support of our research.

There is little survey research that has explored in depth public attitudes in the United States about democratic institutions and core elements of democracy, such as free and fair elections, equal protection of the law for all, and rule of law. The project’s broader, long-term goal is to use the findings of its research to develop strategies to strengthen domestic support for fundamental democratic values. The Democracy Project worked with polling firms Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research (GQRR) and North Star Opinion Research on both qualitative and quantitative research to compile data for our report, “Reversing a Crisis of Confidence.
